When I wrote “Kingdom” there really wasn’t a whole lot of thought going into it initially. I was trying to just have fun and write something that felt happy rhythmic and kind of had a reggae vibe to it. I think the lyrics kind of reflect that because it’s all about positivity. I had kind of been going through a few problems over the past few months and I think the song is a reflective message to myself and anyone else to just stay positive. When I came up with the line “at least you got your freedom” that took the song from being just a fun jam into actually trying to say something important. I feel like these days it’s so easy to feel sorry for yourself with social media and all the mental health issues people talk about everyday. It’s not hard to compare your life to someone else’s and then feel down about it. But I think no matter how hard you might have it there’s always someone else out there who’s got it worse. And that’s what the song is for me: a reminder to try and look at the bright side of things. Because at the end of the day the chances of you actually being alive is 1 in a Trillion. So to be able to have a chance at life and to have the freedom to do what you want I feel is such a blessing. Life is amazing it just depends how you look at it. It’s very easy to just look at a problem and feel horrible about it and let it consume you. But if you look at the positives, focus on the future and where you could go, life could be amazing.
